Dominic Yoder enters his sixth season as the head volleyball coach at Northern Michigan University in 2012. He guided the Wildcats to three straight NCAA appearances from 2008-11 and is 96-57 at NMU. Yoder picked up career victory 100 on Oct. 15, 2010 at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover against Rockhurst in a 3-1 victory. His overall collegiate record is 121-61. Under coach Yoder, the ‘Cats are 46-10 at Vandament Arena.

NMU had a winning record for the ninth straight year in 2011, finishing 15-14 overall. The Wildcats were 12-7 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for third in the North Division and fifth overall.

Northern won 17 straight matches to start 2010 and finished the season 22-7. The ‘Cats were 15-4 in the GLIAC, which was good for second in the North Division and third overall. NMU qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament for the third year in a row and were defeated by Indianapolis for the second time in three years in the first round.

Yoder led the ‘Cats to a 19-12 record in 2009 and an 11-5 record in the GLIAC, which was good for a third-place finish in the GLIAC North. NMU advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament, losing to Hillsdale.

In 2008, Yoder led the ‘Cats to a 20-12 overall record and an 11-5 mark in the GLIAC, which was good for a fourth-place finish in the GLIAC North. The ‘Cats advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004, but lost to Indianapolis in five sets. 

In his first season (2007) at NMU, Yoder led the Wildcats to an overall record of 20-12 and 13-5 in the conference, which was good for second place in the GLIAC North. 

He spent the 2006 season at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., where he led the Aggies to a 25-4 record and the Lone Star Conference North Division title.  Yoder was named the Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year.

Before coaching at Cameron, Yoder was an assistant coach at GLIAC member school Michigan Tech for two seasons (2004-05). He was responsible for on-court coaching, opponent scouting, film breakdown and recruiting of student-athletes for the Huskies.

Yoder was the girl’s volleyball coach at Battle Creek Central High School for four seasons (2000-04). He led his 2004 squad to a 54-13 overall record, as well as conference and district championships. Yoder was named the Michigan High School Athletic Association Region 12 Coach of the Year in 2004. His first three squads at Battle Creek Central were 8-32, 29-25 and 34-19.

Yoder founded and spent two years (2002-04) as the director and volleyball coach of the Team Deer Volleyball Club. He has also been an assistant coach at Albion College (2002), Ferris State University (2000) and Kalamazoo Valley Community College (1997).

Over his career, Yoder has served as a summer camp instructor at the University of Michigan, Michigan State, Northwood University, Ferris State and Western Michigan University.

Yoder received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Michigan. Yoder received his bachelor’s in 1998 in mathematics. He then received his master’s in sports studies in 2000. Yoder and his wife, Ariane, reside in Marquette.
