Northern Michigan University Athletic Council
The Northern Michigan University Athletic Council is advisory to the President of the University on matters pertaining to intercollegiate athletics. Final authority on changes of policy governing operation of the intercollegiate athletic program rests with the President.
Athletic Council Chair
The chair of the Northern Michigan university Athletic Council is Julie Rochester. Julie is an Associate Professor in the Health Physical, Education, Recreation Department and has been appointed by the President to be the Faculty Athletic Representative. FAR Handbook FARA Web site

Academic Resources for Student-Athletes
Academic and Career Advisement Center - The place for answers to all your academic and career questions. Professional counselors are available to help you choose a major and/or career.
Writing Center - Helps NMU students improve their writing skills by providing free, one-on-one tutoring sessions for all forms of writing.
Lydia M. Olson Library - The campus library has online database, an extensive catalog, and other research tools.
Academic Computing - Provides support for the TLC laptop program through the Help Desk, Micro Repair and other support staff.
Student-Athlete Scholar of the Month
The Athletic Council started the Student-Athletes Scholar of the Month at the beginning of the 2011-12 school year.
Student-athletes are nominated by a Northern Michigan University faculty member and chosen by the Athletic Council.

GLIAC - NMU is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming/diving, track, and volleyball.

CCSA - The NMU Nordic Ski teams are members of the Central Collegiate Ski Association.
