MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team begins a three-game home stand on Saturday (Feb. 2) as the Wildcats host Michigan Technological University. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. from the Berry Events Center.
NMU (10-8 overall, 7-7 GLIAC) comes into the meeting after splitting a pair of games on the road over the weekend. The ‘Cats got back into the win column with the 58-52 win over Lake Superior State on Thursday. On Saturday, the Wildcats fell at Northwood, 65-52.
Sophomore guards Lauren Gruber (12.3) and Alyssa Colla (11.4) average in double figures for the ‘Cats. Freshman forward Nea Makela leads the team in rebounds with a 5.9 average.
MTU sits at the top of the GLIAC North Division with a 13-5 overall records and an 11-3 mark in the conference. The Huskies are currently on a four-game win streak after sweeping Northwood and LSSU on the weekend. MTU defeated the Timberwolves 65-59 on Thursday and the Lakers 70-58 on Saturday.
Sam Hoyt leads the scoring for the Huskies, averaging 16.2 points a game. Kylie Moxley is just below a double digit average at 9.6. Jillian Ritchie tallies 5.8 rebounds and Paige Albi averages 5.6.
The Wildcats lead the all-time series against the Huskies, 47-37. NMU has lost nine out of the last 10 meetings and have not won a matchup in the series in Marquette since the 2003-04 season.
100.3 FM “The Point”, the official radio voice of the NMU Wildcats, will broadcast the game.
The two teams will matchup for the final game of the season on March 2 in Houghton, Mich.
NMU will host Grand Valley State and Ferris next weekend to close out the three-game home stretch.
