MARQUETTE, Mich. – Junior George Cartwright of the Northern Michigan University Nordic ski team was named Central Collegiate Ski Association’s skier of the week.

Cartwright cemented his place as one of the conference’s finest sprinters by claiming the CCSA crown in the men’s freestyle sprint on Saturday. The junior skied a controlled, mature race, conserving his energy in the semi-final and coming from behind to win the A final. Cartwright then helped the Wildcats to the classic relay title as well, turning in the best lap of his leg as NMU pulled away to a comfortable 25-second victory.

Northern gets back to action next weekend (Feb. 16-17) in Mt. Itasca in Coleraine, Minn. for the distance freestyle and classic events that will decide the conference champions.
