Wildcats Ski Classic at NCAA Championship

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Northern Michigan men’s and women’s Nordic skiing teams finished day two of the two-day competition at the 2012 NCAA Championship on Bohart Ranch in Bozeman, Montana on Friday (Mar. 9).

The Wildcats sit in 10th place overall with 227 points. NMU is the highest ranked team that doesn't have an alpine squad. The men tallied 116 points with the women scoring 111. The Championship concludes on Saturday with the final alpine events.

Junior Marie Helen Soderman was the top finisher of the day, coming in 13th place in the women’s 15-kilometer classic. She finished in 55:46.5. Soderman is an All-American after a 10th place finish in the freestyle on Wednesday (Mar. 7).

Junior Monica Markvardsen crossed the line in 24th place and sophomore Molly Burger finished 38th.

Freshman Kjell-Christian Markset was the top Wildcat on the men’s side. He finished 25th with a time of 1:00:25.9 in the 20-kilometer classic.

Junior Chris Bowler was five spots back in 30th, crossing the line in 1:01:11.5. Freestyle National Champion from Wednesday, sophomore Erik Soderman, finished 38th on Friday.

The NCAA Championship marks the end of the season for the ‘Cats.
