MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University football team has seniors representing the Wildcats in college all-star games in the next two weeks. Defensive lineman Zach Anderson and offensive lineman Jace Daniels will play in Sunday’s third annual National Bowl Game at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pa. Kicker Rockne Belmonte is playing in the D2 vs. NAIA Scout Bowl on Dec. 15 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
“It’s critical whenever you can get our university all-star game exposer and it’s a feather in their cap that they were invited to play in these games and be recognized as one of the best players in the country at their position,” NMU football coach Chris Ostrowksy said. “It’s fantastic for our program to get notoriety and seeing our players being celebrated.”
Anderson and Daniels will play against each other as Anderson is on the Blue team and Daniels is on Red. Both were All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team selections.
“It’s awesome that these guys are going to pursue professional careers,” Ostrowsky added. “It’s awesome that they’re going to chase their dream. They have to understand that there’s a lot of luck involved but they should chase their dream for as long as they can.”
Belmonte was also a first team GLIAC selection and was recently named a Beyond Sports Network All-American as a second team choice. He finished his career with 45 field goals to break NMU’s career mark and holds school records for most field goals in a season (15) and longest field goal (58 yards).
