MARQUETTE, Mich.—The United States Olympic Education Centerweightlifting team is looking to involve more community members with the introduction of the Northern Michigan University Weightlifting Club.
The new program is an expansion of the current community club team and offers more personalized training and hours. USOEC head coach Vance Newgard will lead the team. Newgard is a decorated weightlifter and holds numerous certifications in coaching and strength and conditioning.
“We’re making a real effort to involve the community with our program,” said Newgard. “Our goal is to introduce Olympic-style lifting to area residents, whether they are looking to build upon their fitness or have aspirations to join the resident team in the future.”
Club members do not need to have a background in Olympic-style lifting to join the club. Training programs will be designed to fit individual needs and goals.
Registration fees will be $70 for one NMU semester or $130 for two semesters. Members will also be registered with USA Weightlifting and that cost will be deducted from the club membership for the first year if you purchase a two semester membership.
