Volleyball Falls to Lewis in Five

AURORA, Ill. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team lost its final match at the fifth annual Mizuno GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament at the Great Lakes Center on Saturday (Oct. 13). The Wildcats fell to Lewis University, 3-2 are now 13-9 overall after their final non-conference match of the season.

NMU started the match off strong, taking the first two sets (25-19, 25-18). The Flyers came back to take the next two sets (25-18 and 25-23) after the break to send the match into a fifth and deciding set. The Flyers won the final set 15-12.

The ‘Cats had 60 kills and hit a .201 attack percentage. Junior Kalli Herron had a match-high 20 kills to lead a balanced NMU attack. Senior Andree Ring and junior Sarah Hamilton each had 12 kills while junior Lina Lopes chipped in with 11.

Senior Kalin Zimmerman and Lopes led the defense with 14 digs each. Juniors Kellisha Harley and Suzanne Solin each added 11 digs. Harley setup the offense with 48 assists. Freshman Alexis Nelson had five block assists and Ring tallied four.

For the Lewis Flyers, Jen Krumwiede led in digs with 23 and kills with 15. Colleen Mitros had 13 digs and 12 kills. Mary Caroll added 12 digs while Carly Perschnick added 11 kills. Brea Leigh finished with 40 assists and Vivian Pritz had 11.

The ‘Cats return to GLIAC action next weekend at Vandament Arena. NMU faces Ohio Dominican University on Friday and Tiffin University on Saturday.
