Track and Field Competes in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 23-ranked Northern Michigan University indoor track and field team competed in its second meet of the season on Saturday (Jan. 19) at the University of Wisconsin Elite Invitational.

Sophomore Britti Wirtz was NMU’s top finisher with a third place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.84 seconds. Four Wildcats finished in spots nine through 12 in the 600 run with senior Colby West leading in the ninth spot. Sophomore Caitlin Keskey, junior Sydney Schultz and sophomore Shaina Walther finished behind West, respectively.

In the 60 hurdles, Walther finished 10th. Freshman Catherine Swiderski finished in ninth place in the one-mile

Sophomore Katie Granquist placed sixth in the 800 run, while redshirt freshman Abby Roche and freshman Jaylee Brown took eighth and ninth.

The 4x400 relay team of Katie Granquist, Brown, Keskey and Swiderski finished in sixth. The second 4x400 team with senior Brooke Granquist, Schultz, Walther and West placed seventh.

In field events, Brooke Granquist finished eighth in both the long jump and the high jump. Senior Mariah Beaman added an 11th place in the long jump. Freshman Megan Strait took 14thin the weight throw, and freshman Tori Freeman in 15th.

Northern will take the week of competition off and will be back to action on Feb. 2 in Stevens Point, Wis. for the Pointer Invitational.
