NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team was one of 83 Division II teams honored as an All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Catherine Angeli and Bailey Franklin were two of 317 student-athletes named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team.
Angeli, a senior sprinter from Marquette, Mich., received the award for the second year in a row. She holds Northern’s record in the indoor 200 and 400 and the outdoor 100 and 200.
Franklin, a senior field athlete from River Falls, Wis., earned All-America status during both the indoor and outdoor seasons in high jump. She holds the NMU record for high jump at 5 feet, 9.25 inches.
Teams selected had a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better. The Wildcats held a team GPA of 3.22 and received the award for the seventh year in a row.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either indoor or outdoor seasons.
