MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team held its annual Wildcat Intrasquad on Saturday (Jan. 19) morning at the PEIF Pool. Seniors Gaby Alzaga, Olga Budiansky and Lauren Cockels were honored during their last home meet.
Alzaga dominated on the day with three first place finishes. She won the 50-yard backstroke, 50 and 100 freestyle.
Freshman Crystal Bennet and sophomore Emily Bourguignon won their two individual events. Bennet took the 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly while Bourguignon finished first in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Sophomore Debbi Lawrence placed first in the 100 individual medley and 100 butterfly and second in the 50 backstroke. Sophomore Jordan Iverson was first in the 500 freestyle and second in the 100 IM.
Sophomore Madisen Sechena won the 100 breaststroke and was second in the 50 freestyle. Budiansky finished second in 50 breaststroke
Sophomore Molly Kearney scored 396.6 points in the three-meter dive.
The first place 450 medley relay squad was all sophomores as Megan Crowder, Madisen Sechena, Tara Dowling and Pam Johnson won the event.
Northern gets back in the pool for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Feb. 6-9 in Canton, Ohio.
