DULUTH, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team shot 37.1 percent from the floor (23-62) and dropped its game to St. Cloud State University at the American Family Insurance Classic at the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Friday. NMU was down by nine points at the half (35-26) and lost the game by a score of 75-65.
The Wildcats drop to 1-2 overall on the season while the Huskies are now 3-0.
Four ‘Cats were in double-digits in the scoring column as Kelsey Deacon led the way with 16 points and three assists. Allison Carroll added 14 points; LaShawn Lambert had 11 and Maria Kasza ended the game with 10. Lambert added a game-high nine rebounds. Erika Quigley from SCSU led all scorers with 27 points. Rebounds were all even at 39.
The closest the ‘Cats got in the second half was seven points when Carroll made a jumper with 13 plus minutes left in the game.
NMU connected on six of 17 three-pointers for 35.3 percent for the game. From the charity stripe the ‘Cats were 13-16 for 81.3 percent.
The ‘Cats will play the host UM-Duluth Bulldogs on Saturday at the classic.
