NMU Drops First Game Of The Season
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team opened its 2006-07 season (0-1) at UW-Green Bay on Friday night. Down by 16 points at the half (38-22) the Wildcats dropped the game by a 76-59 count.
UW-GB picked up its first win on the season in three tries (1-2).
The first half saw the ‘Cats make nine field goal in 33 attempts for a 27.3 shooting percentage. NMU added two three-pointers in 16 attempts (12.5 percent) and both of its free throw attempts. For the game the ‘Cats were 19-59 from the floor (32.2 percent) and 6-32 from three-point land (18.8 percent). After being perfect from the free throw line in the first half the ‘Cats were 13-20 in the second half for a total of 15-22 for the game (68.2 percent).
The home team outrebounded the ‘Cats by nine at 46-37.
Ricky Volcy led all scorers with a game-high 18 points. He also led the ‘Cats on the boards with nine rebounds. Will Washington and Tyler Kazmierkoski each added 13 points. Terry Evans of UW-GB recorded the double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
The ‘Cats will be in action again on Tuesday night (Nov. 21) at Wayne State University for a non-conference game.
