BAY CITY, Mich. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its All-Conference Football Teams. The teams were selected by the league’s football coaches.
Northern Michigan University landed two players on the second team. Buddy Rivera, a junior, is a repeated second-team selection at quarterback, and Fred Wells, a sophomore, was selected as a wide receiver.
Rivera, from Grandville, Mich., led the GLIAC in two categories. He was the top passer in the conference with 2,399 yards (239.9 avg/g). Rivera was 165-279-5 with 20 touchdowns. He also led the conference in total offense with 2,567 yards (256.7 yds/g).
Wells, a native of Flint, Mich., was second in the GLIAC in receiving yards with 870 yards (87.0 yds/g). He was fifth in the conference in receptions per game with 44 receptions (4.40 rec/g). Wells caught nine touchdown passes for the 2006 season which led the Wildcats.
Five members of the NMU football team were selected to the GLIAC Honorable Mention Team. Selected were: Joe Dost, Reese, Mich. (Jr./LB); Dan Elmore, Trenton, Mich. (So./WR); Jon Hoggard, Trenton, Mich. (Jr./DB); Kris Krempien, Mukwonago, Wis. (So./OL); and Mike Mahloch, Shawano, Wis. (Jr./DL).
