The Northern Michigan University Hockey Wildcat’s will host the Alaska Nanooks in a two-game series at the Berry Events Center on Friday and Saturday, November 10 and 11th. The ‘Cats are 5-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the CCHA while the Nanooks are 5-1-0 and 3-0-1 respectively. On Friday there will be a Blue Line Club luncheon at 12 noon at the NMU University Center. The BLC luncheon is open to the public and will preview the upcoming series as current NMU hockey players, Wildcat head coach Walt Kyle, and Nanook head coach Tavis McMillan will give their insight into the games.
The Wildcats have dominated the Nanooks at the Berry Events Center with a 9-1-2 record. Alaska’s only win at the Berry was in its last game in Marquette on Feb. 5, 2005 (2-1). NMU is 2-3 against the Nanooks over the past five games. Last year in Fairbanks the ‘Cats lost the first game (1-3) and won the second night (4-1).
Looking at the Nanooks
Alaska has now spent the better part of a week in the lower 48. The Nanooks played at Nebraska-Omaha last week and its trip to Marquette is a continuation of the treck. UA tied (505) and defeated the Mavericks (4-3). Kyle Greentree leads the Nanooks with 17 points on eight goals and nine assists. Curtis Fraser (6-5-1) and Tyler Eckford (3-8) are next on the list with 11 points. Chad Johnson and Wylie Rogers have both registered time between the pipes this season.. Johnson is 4-0-1 with a 1.97 GAA and a .927 save-percentage. Rogers is 1-1-1 with a 4.14 GAA and an .890 save-percentage.
