MARQUETTE, Mich. – It seems every time that the Northern Michigan University soccer team plays a game it adds to its records. The Wildcats defeated non-conference foe Minnesota-Duluth on the NMU soccer pitch 1-0 on Sunday. With the win the ‘Cats add to its wins in a season mark and shutouts for a season.
NMU is now 14-2-0 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 8-6-3.
The only goal on the day came off of an Amanda Gadomski corner kick, when the UMD goaltender missed handled the ball and it trickled into the goal. The own goal gave the ‘Cats the lead at 47:09 which held up for the remainder of the game.
Kara Music recorded her eighth shutout of the season. She had 13 saves on the day. As a team NMU has 11 shutouts on the season. Both are current NMU records.
UMD did have more shots than the ‘Cats with an 18-10 advantage. NMU had six corner kicks to four for the Bulldogs.
NMU will face another non-conference foe in UW-Oshkosh on the road on Friday night (Oct. 27) and then will play its regular season finale against Northwood at home on Sunday (Oct. 29).
