MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team took a step closer to the NCAA II Regionals with a 2-0 win over Gannon on Sunday. With the win the Wildcats are now 13-2-0 overall on the season and 5-2-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Golden Knights fall to 7-9-1 and 2-4-0 respectively.
Renee LeBlanc gave the ‘Cats the 1-0 lead with her team-leading 13th goal of the season at 15:58. Amanda Gadomski had the assist on the goal. She has a team-high five assists on the season. Celia Sturos scored the second goal for the ‘Cats at 21:10. It was her fourth goal of the season.
Kara Music recorded her seventh shutout of the season as she turned away four shots. With the shutout, Music set a new NMU record for shutouts in a season. Music now has 12 wins on the season which adds to another school record for wins in a season.
NMU had 13 shots for the match while GU had nine. Neither team had a corner kick for the afternoon.
NMU will host Minnesota-Duluth a week from today (Oct. 22).
