Matt Siddall's Goal Holds Up
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team did not want a repeat of Friday night. Michigan Tech scored with three seconds left in regulation to take the 2-1 win in the opening game of the home-and-home slate with the Wildcats. Saturday’s game was in Marquette at the Berry Events Center with another crowd of over 4,000 people on hand.
Matt Siddall scored NMU’s first power-play goal of the season just 45 seconds into the game for the 1-0 lead. Darin Olver picked up his first point on the season with one of the assists. Mike Santorelli had the other assist. Siddall’s goal would hold up for the remaining 59:15 of the game.
It was the ‘Cats first win of the season as they are now 1-2-1 on the season. MTU is 1-1-0. Bill Zaniboni recorded his fourth career shutout with his 22 saves on the night. NMU had 14 shots while the Huskies had 22. On the power play NMU was 1-10 while MTU was 0-11.
The ‘Cats will participate in the Mutual of Omaha Stampede Tournament next weekend. NMU will face UMass-Lowell in the first game on Friday (Oct. 20).
