Volleyball 'Cats Snap Skid

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team snapped its four-match skid with a three-game sweep over the Lake Superior State Lakers on Saturday afternoon at the Vandament Arena. The Wildcats had also dropped its last three matches in five games. But on Saturday NMU won by scores of 30-26, 30-23 and 30-20. 
 
With the win the ‘Cats improve to 14-8 overall and 6-8 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Lakers fall to 5-18 and 2-12 respectively.
 
Sam Schulte had a match-high 15 kills in 26 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .423. Mandie Meyer was the only other ‘Cat in double-digit kills with 10. Schulte added five block assists as did Katt Garvick. NMU had two block solos, 20 block assists and 12 total team blocks for the match. 
 
Brittany McGowan had 26 assists and two service aces for the ‘Cats. Megan Elliott and Cassie Osiecki also had two service aces. Defensively Osiecki and Meyer each had 11 digs.
 
NMU will be on the road next weekend against Grand Valley State (Oct. 21) and Ferris State (Oct. 22).
