MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team won its third game in a row over the weekend as the Wildcats won twice. Friday (Oct. 6) the ‘Cats took care of the Lewis University Flyers at home (3-11) 2-1. Sunday (Oct. 8) NMU was back into conference play and on the road at Saginaw Valley State (9-6, 2-2 GLIAC) and took care of the Cardinals 1-0. With the win over Lewis on Friday the squad set a new school record for wins in a season. NMU is currently 12-2 overall and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Against the Flyers, Renee LeBlanc scored both goals in the win. Her first goal was scored at 19:26. LU tied the game at one with a goal by Courtney Kettell at 21:50. LeBlanc scored the game-winner at 64:26 on an assist from Celia Sturos. Kara Music had two saves on the day.
On Sunday, the ‘Cats received an unassisted goal from Sturos at 66:54 for the win. Music again in goal for the ‘Cats had nine saves on the day. SVSU had 18 shots while NMU had 11.
NMU will host Gannon next Sunday (Oct. 15) at noon.
