Soccer Ends Drought Against Ashland
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Entering the game on Sunday the Northern Michigan University soccer team was 0-10-0 all-time against the Ashland Eagles. That has now changed as the Wildcats defeated the Eagles 1-0.
With the win NMU is now 10-2-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The 10 wins tied an NMU record for most wins in a season. During the 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005 seasons the ‘Cats also won 10 games. AU falls to 7-4-1 and 2-1-0 respectively.
Renee LeBlanc’s goal at 65:37 was all the ‘Cats needed. The goal was her team-high 10th of the season. Emily Lockery assisted.
Kara Music had seven saves on the day. She now has five shutouts on the season. Music needs one more shutout to tie the NMU record for shutouts in a season. Beck Kasper for the Eagles had six saves.
Shots were almost even as NMU had 12 to 11 for AU. NMU had the only corner kicks on the day with two.
