DETROIT, Mich. – After dropping four of its past five matches the Northern Michigan University volleyball team, found a way to get back in the win column, defeated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division foe Wayne State University on Friday night. The Wildcats defeated the Warriors in three straight (30-20, 30-18, 30-26). NMU improves to 13-4 overall and 5-4 in the GLIAC. WSU falls to 1-13 and 1-8 respectively.
The ‘Cat attack was led by Sam Schulte, Kate Olechny and Megan Elliott with 12, 11 and 10 kills respectively. For the match NMU had 47 kills in 135 attempts for a hitting percentage of .200. Schulte ended the match with a hitting percentage of .345 as she had 29 total attempts.
Brittany McGowan had 21 assists as teammate Rachel Martinez added 11. Cassie Osiecki had four of the eight service aces on the night. She added 15 digs in the win. Olechny led the defensive effort with 18 digs. The play at the net saw the ‘Cats without a block solo on the night. Schulte and Olechny each had two block assists.
NMU will tangle with another GLIAC South member tomorrow (Sept. 30) when they play at Hillsdale.
