Hockey Picked Fourth in CCHA Media Poll

DETROIT, Mich. –  The Northern Michigan University hockey team was picked fourth in the media poll and eighth in the coaches poll at the annual Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) media day in Detroit. The ‘Cats garnered 570 points in the media poll and 59 in the coaches poll. Michigan, with 26 first-place votes and 845 overall, was picked as the favorite in the media poll. Michigan State, with seven first-place votes and 117 overall, was tabbed as the preseason favorite with the coaches. 
 
A total of 77 members of the media ranked the 12 CCHA teams in projected order of finish for the regular season. Points were awarded on a 12-11-10-9, etc., basis. League coaches ranked the CCHA teams, excluding their own schools, in the order they predicted the regular season will end. Points in the coaches poll were tallied on an 11-10-9, etc. basis.
 
The 2006-07 CCHA Preseason All-Conference Teams were also announced at the media day. The Wildcats did not land anyone on either the first or second team. Darin Olver received honorable mention honors.
 
The 2006-07 CCHA television schedule has been announced. NMU will appear twice on television during the season. Both games will be on the road and on CSTV. NMU’s first appearance will be against Notre Dame from Ft. Wayne, Ind. on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 1 p.m. (ET). The ‘Cats will also appear on CSTV from Columbus, Ohio, when they face the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday, Feb. 9, at 8 p.m. (ET).
