ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon at Grand Valley State. GVSU scored three goals in the second half to take the 4-1 win. NMU falls to 9-2 overall and 2-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Lakers improve to 9-0 and 2-0 respectively.
With the Lakers holding a 1-0 lead early in the game, Brittney Buchanan scored her third goal of the season at 29:44 to tie the game at one-all. Amanda Gadomski assisted on the goal, for her team-high fourth of the year. The score would stay that way until 63:15 when Sue Christenson scored her third goal of the season to give the home team the 2-1 lead. The Lakers added goals by Shannon Carrier (75:24) and Katy Tafler (79:42) for the final tally.
Kara Music went the distance in goal for the Wildcats as she had seven saves.
GVSU has 25 shots for the afternoon to seven for the ‘Cats. The home team had eight corner kicks to four for NMU.
The ‘Cats return home to face Ashland on Sunday, Oct. 1.
