MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State Lakers proved on Friday night at the Vandament Arena why they are ranked second in this week’s CSTV/AVCA Coaches Top 25. Northern Michigan took the first game of the match (31-29) before the Lakers rattled off the next three (17-30, 20-30, 19-30) to take the match. NMU falls to 12-3 overall and 4-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). GVSU is now 12-1 and 5-0 respectively.
Megan Elliott and Sam Schulte led the ‘Cats with 17 and 14 kills respectively. Meghan Moore for GVSU had a match-high 22 kills. For the match the ‘Cats had 52 kills as a team for a hitting percentage of .167. Brittany McGowan dished the rock 29 times for the ‘Cats.
On the defensive front, McGowan had 15 digs while Cassie Osiecki added 12. At the net, Becky Jarosch had the only two block solos for the ‘Cats on the night. Schulte had four of the eight block assists on the night.
NMU will face Ferris State tomorrow, Saturday (Sept. 23) at the Vandament Arena.
