MIDLAND, Mich. – The table was turned a bit on the Northern Michigan University volleyball team. Friday night at Northwood the Timberwolves did to NMU what the ‘Cats have been doing the first three weeks of the season. NU served NMU its first loss of the season in three straight (27-30, 24-30, 26-30). With the loss the ‘Cats fall to 11-1 overall and 3-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Timberwolves improve to 9-4 and 3-2 respectively.
Breanne Zaremba was the lone ‘Cat to hit the double-digit mark in kills as she ended the match with 10. For the night NMU had 46 kills as a team, with a hitting percentage of .161. Megan Elliott ended the match with nine kills. Match-high honors went to Lana Sorokina of NU with 19 kills.
Brittany McGowan had 20 assists on the night to lead NMU. Defensively, Cassie Osiecki and Elliott led the ‘Cats in digs with 14 and 11 respectively. At the net NMU just had one block solo (Sam Schulte) and four blocks assists for the match.
NMU will moved down the road to face Saginaw Valley State tomorrow (Sept. 16) for the second match of the three-match road swing.
