MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team keeps on rolling as they won its 11th straight match this afternoon at the Vandament Arena over the visiting Lakers of Mercyhurst College. The Wildcats were in control the whole match as they won again in three straight (30-22, 30-26, 30-22). With the win the ‘Cats are a perfect 11-0 overall on the season and in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play (3-0). The Lakers fall to 6-5 and 1-2 respectively.
Megan Elliott had the strong arm today as she had a match-high 16 kills and added 12 digs. Two other ‘Cats were in double-digits in the kill column as Sam Schulte added 13 and Mandie Meyer chipped in with 10. Brittany McGowan led all players with 35 assists. Cassie Osiecki led the ‘Cats on the defensive front with 15 digs.
Schulte led NMU at the net with two block solos and two block assists. Kate Olechny added one block solo and two block assists. Breanne Zaremba and Osiecki each had two service aces.
NMU will hit the road next week for a three-match GLIAC swing. First up is a date at Northwood on Friday (Sept. 15), then of to Saginaw Valley State (Sept. 16) and cross the bridge on Sunday (Sept. 17) to take on Lake Superior State.
