MARQUETTE, Mich. – It took the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team some time to get rolling on Saturday against Concordia-St. Paul, but two goals by Ashley Dekeyser and a penalty kick by Renee LeBlanc gave the ‘Cats enough for a 4-0 win. NMU is now 5-1-0 overall on the season as CSP falls to 1-5-0.
After a scoreless 45 minutes of play LeBlanc was taken down in the box and kicked home a penalty kick in the 62nd minute of the game (62:55) to give NMU the lead at 1-0. A little more than 10 minutes later (73:24), DeKeyser scored the first of her two goals on the day with a little help from Amanda Gadomski. Celia Sturos added her first goal of the season at 76:23 as the ‘Cats took the 3-0 lead. DeKeyser scored her second goal of the day at 78:59 for the final margin.
Kara Music and Dana Bush combined for the shutout. Music had three saves on the day. NMU ended the day with 27 shots as CSP had 11. CSP did have three corner kicks to two for the ‘Cats.
NMU will be in action again tomorrow (Sept. 10) at 1 p.m. when Bemidji State will be the opponent at the NMU Soccer Field.
