BAY CITY, Mich. - Playing in the first four matches of her collegiate career, freshman outside hitter Mandie Meyer led Northern Michigan University to a 4-0 mark to open the 2006 campaign at the NMU & TCF Bank Tournament. Meyer led the Wildcats with 57 kills (4.07 per game), and a .380 attack percentage. She was named this week’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week.
The freshman from Crystal Lake, Ill., also tallied 42 digs (3.0 per game), seven service aces and four blocks. She posted 11 kills and 12 digs as unranked NMU upset 20th-ranked Abilene Christian (Texas), 3-1. Meyer’s best match of the weekend wasagainst St. Cloud State (Minn.) when she recorded 17 kills, a .592 attack percentage, 12 digs, and two blocks.
