Soccer Team Looks to Rebound from First Loss

The Northern Michigan University soccer team suffered its first loss of the season in a 5-1 defeat at the hands of GLIAC opponent Mercyhurst.

The Lakers received a pair of goals from Lisa Casement and Sarah Powell.

Northern’s lone score was put in by Amanda Gadomski at the 80-minute mark to make the tally 3-1 before Casement notched her second at 83:45 and Amicons the final goal at 84:48 to ice the MC victory.

NMU goalkeeper Kara Music made eight saves while Merychurst’s Rebecca Heintzman made two.

The Wildcats hope to rebound from the loss with three of their next four contests at home. They will meet Findlay at noon on Saturday, Sept. 2, then travel to Hancock to play Finlandia on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The following weekend, they play host to Concorida-St. Paul at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9; and Bemidji State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10.

All home games are played on the NMU Soccer Field behind the Superior Dome. Admission to the games is free.
