The Northern Michigan University soccer team opened 2006 with a pair of road wins, downing Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday and Youngstown State on Sunday, both by 1-0 scores.

In the first contest, Renee LeBlanc scored a chip-in at the 60-minute mark. Wildcat goalkeeper Kara Music made two saves while UWP goalie Erica Higuchi had three stops.

Against Youngstown State, Amanda Gadcmski notched the game-winner at 63:09 on an unassisted effort. Music had another two saves. YSU goalkeeper Caitlin Bodzioney was called upon for five saves.

NMU plays host to Mercyhurst at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, and to Findlay at noon, Saturday, Sept. 2, both on the Superior Dome Field. Admission is free.

For the ‘Cats went 6-0 for the opening weekend of 2006 with the volleyball team winning four matches at its NMU-TCF Bank Invitational.
