MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team is now 4-0 on the season after a clean sweep at the NMU & TCF Bank Tournament over the weekend. Saturday the ‘Cats took care of UW-Parkside in its first match of the day in three straight (30-14, 30-22, 30-28). In the final match of the event the ‘Cats again won in three straight over Emporia State (30-22, 30-25, 30-17).
Caitlin O’Hara led the ‘Cats with 12 kills against UW-Parkside as teammate Mandie Meyer added 11. Two ‘Cats were in double-digits in assists with Rachel Martinez leading the way with 27 and Brittany McGowan had 13. Cassie Osiecki had 11 digs in the win.
Meyer again led the hit parade against Emporia State with 18 kills. Teammate Sam Schulte added 17 in the victory. McGowan had 35 assists for the match to lead all players. Meyer added 12 digs while Megan Elliott had 11. Kate Olechny had 4 block assists for the match.
NMU’s next action is at the Alamo City Classic in San Antonio, Texas next week (Sept. 1-2). NMU will face Western Oregon, Friday at 10 a.m., in its first match of the tournament.
