Randy Alexandre Saved The Day For The 'Cats


 

MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Randy Alexandre might havescored 16 points against St. Norbert on Saturday afternoon at the Berry Events Center, but his final two points of the game were the biggest.  With thescore tied at 67-all with about 13 seconds left in the game he took thein-bound pass and made a floating shot down the lane with one tick left on theclock to give the â€Â˜Cats the game 69-67.  NMU started the game in a big hole.  St. Norbert jumped out to a 19-5 lead about nine minutes into the game.  With the win theâ€Â˜Cats have won their past two games and are now 4-5 on the season.  The GreenKnights are now 3-2 on the season.

 

The first half saw the visitors shoot 48 percent from thefloor (12-25) while the â€Â˜Cats were 8-32 for 25 percent.  NMU made one of 13three-point attempts in the first 20 minutes.  NMU ended the first half byscoring four points in the final minute to narrow the lead to 30-25.

 

Ricky Volcy converted a lay-up with 17:45 left in regulationto give the â€Â˜Cats their second lead of the game at 32-31.  NMU did have a sevenpoint lead at 51-44 when Alexandre made a lay-up with 10:33 left in the game. In the last 10 minutes of the game the score was tied four times.  With thescore tied at 65-all, R. Volcy made one of two free throws at 2:38 left in thecontest to give NMU the lead.  Brandon Hansen gave the Green Knights the 67-66lead with 1:28 left in the game.  Alexandre would tie the game at 67 when heconverted one of his two free throws.  St. Norbert missed a shot with 18 ticksleft on the clock.  The missed shot set up Alexandreâ€Â™s game-winning shot.

 

R. Volcy had a career day with a double-double.  He hadcareer numbers in points with 33 and rebounds with 13.  Brother, Marco Volcy,chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.  Hansen led the Green Knightswith 18 points.  NMU was 25-59 from the floor for the game for 42.4 percent and5-20 from the three-point line (25 percent).  St. Norbert shot over 50 percentfor the game from the floor at 50.9 percent (27-53).  The home team made 21trips to the free throw line and made 14 throws for 66.7 percent.  NMU had afive rebound advantage over the Green Knights at 35-30.  For the â€Â˜Cats 19 ofthe rebounds were on the offensive end.

 

The â€Â˜Cats will be off until after Christmas when they faceNorthern Kentucky on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Berry Events Center.
