'Cats Drop Second Game In A Row


 

HOUGHTON, Mich.  â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s basketball team was down by two at the half to the Central State UniversityMarauders on Friday night in the first game of the Holiday Inn Express Classicat Michigan Tech.  But the â€Â˜Cats dropped the 77-72 game to the team from Ohio.  NMU is now 6-3 on the season.  CSU is 8-2.

 

After Tera Oppermanâ€Â™s three-point play at 15:47 of thesecond half the â€Â˜Cats held the 46-43 lead.  CSU then scored two buckets in arow, one off of a missed jumper by Tiffany Grubaugh, to take the 47-46 leadwith a little over 15 minutes left in the game.  Holly Cole, with a lay-up, hadthe â€Â˜Cats within one at 69-69 with a little over two minutes left in the game,but that was as close the team would get on the night.

 

CSU made three free throws with less than 30 seconds left inthe game to ice the win.  For the game the â€Â˜Cats were 29-70 from the floor(41.4 percent), 5-26 in three-pointers (19.2 percent) and 9-14 from the freethrow line (64.3 percent).  The Marauders out-rebounded the â€Â˜Cats by a 45-34margin.  Both teams had 12 offensive rebounds.

 

Michelle Moard came off the bench to lead the â€Â˜Cats with 13points and five rebounds.  Grubaugh had 11 points, seven assists, four reboundsand three steals for the game.  Cole and Emily Belland both had 10 points forthe night.

 

NMU will face Florida Southern tomorrow at the Holiday InnExpress Classic at MTU.  The game is set for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18.
