HOUGHTON, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University menâ€Â™s and womenâ€Â™s cross country ski teams competed over the weekend at the MichiganTech Christmas Classic.  A combined team score was kept for the event as theâ€Â˜Cats tallied 15 points to win the event.  The Huskies of MTU were second withsix points.


The women secured the top six places and eight of the topnine.   Ã‚ Lindsay Williams won the event as she covered the 5K course in14:19.1.  Lindsey Weier was second (14:47.0) as she was followed by Tami Kochen(15:00.0) and Maria Stuber (15:08.5).  Jenny Wygant was fifth (15:12.0) asteammate Viktoria Koskenoja was a little over five seconds behind in sixthplace (15:17.3).  Morgan Smyth in eighth place (15:34.3) and Stephanie Howe inninth (15:35.2) rounded out the scorers for the â€Â˜Cats.


Bret Bedard led the â€Â˜Cat men with the top two finishers andfive of the top six places.  Bedard covered the 10K course in 26:21.7. Teammate Bryan Cook was second as he covered the course in 26:41.9.  The fourththrough the sixth spots belonged to the â€Â˜Cats.  Ben Cline was fourth (26:53.5)followed by Joey Graci (27:02.4) and Bill Bowler (27:15.4).  Four more NMUskiers competed and placed in the event.  Leading the way was Gus Kaeding inninth place (27:52.2), Adriaan Ostrander in 10th (27:58.3), Mike Newin 12th (28:32.3) and Justin Singleton in 15th (28:56.9).


Both teams will be competing at the Holiday Cup this weekend(Dec. 11-12) in Ironwood, Mich.
