MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ With five players indouble-digits the Northern Michigan University menâ€Â™s basketball team picked uptheir first win of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Berry Events Center with an 83-44 win over visiting Northland College.  NMU is now 1-2 on theseason.  The Lumber Jacks fall to 1-3 on the campaign. 


The â€Â˜Cats had a commanding 40-18 lead at halftime beforepulling away in the second half.  For the first 20 minutes of play the â€Â˜Catsshot 53.6 percent from the floor (15-28) and made four of the seventhree-pointers.  The second half the â€Â˜Cats shot 66.7 percent from the floor(14-21).  For the game the â€Â˜Cats were 29-49 from the floor for 59.2 percent. Three-pointers NMU was 8-14 for the game (57.1 percent).  The charity stripesaw the â€Â˜Cats go 17-25 (68 percent). 


Ricky Volcy topped the scoring list with 14 points for theâ€Â˜Cats.  He also had six rebounds.  Three â€Â˜Cats checked in off the bench with 12points each as Nick Buck, Randy Alexandre and Jake Suardini all came in for thepoints.  Keder Hyppolite was the fifth â€Â˜Cats in double-digits with 10 points. Buck also had a game-high seven rebounds.  Suardini had four assists for theâ€Â˜Cats.  Overall as a team NMU grabbed 35 rebounds to 27 for Northland. 


NMU will be back in action on Wednesday night (Dec. 1) atMichigan Tech to open up GLIAC play.
