Hot Second Half Helps 'Cats


 

ASHLAND, Ohio - Down by seven points at the half (32-25)to Indiana University (Pa.), the Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™sbasketball team found their shooting touch in the second half and pulled awayand won their third game of the season 80-63 on Saturday afternoon at theAshland University Basketball Tournament.  NMU is now 3-0 on the season as IUPfalls to 3-1.

 

After the first 20 minutes of play the â€Â˜Cats were 12-29 fromthe floor, only made one three-pointer (1-10) and did not shoot a free throw. Also only four â€Â˜Cats had any points as Tiffany Grubaugh led the way with ninepoints.  Emily Belland had eight markers.  Maria Kasza and Michelle Moard bothhad four points.

 

The â€Â˜Cats scored 55 points in the second half as the teamshot a sizzling 66.7 percent from the floor for the half (20-30).  NMU was 5-9in three-pointers in the half and 10-13 from the line.  Grubaugh ended the gamewith a game-high 18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Belland had 13 points and six rebounds in the win.  Kasza and Moard both endedthe game with 12 points each.  Moard pulled down six rebounds.  Ã‚ Holly Colechipped in with 10 points and seven assists.

 

For the game the â€Â˜Cats were 32-59 from the floor (54.2)percent and 6-19 from the three-point line (31.6 percent).  Ã‚ NMU had theadvantage on the boards with a 39-36 margin.

 

The â€Â˜Cats will face Tiffin University tomorrow at the Ashland event.
