'Cats Needed Extra Time In Season Opener


 

PUEBLO, Colo. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s basketball team opened the 2004-05 campaign with an exciting 85-81win in overtime over CSU-Pueblo.  The â€Â˜Cats were down seven points with lessthan four minutes left in the game, but scored 13 points in the extra sessionto pull out the win.  A total of four starters fouled out of the game.  NMU wasdown by seven at the half (33-40).

 

Tiffany Grubaugh led the way with 18 points, six rebounds, sixassists and four steals.  Michelle Moard off the bench had 14 points, eightrebounds and three assists.  Allison Carroll added 13 points, nine rebounds andfour steals in the win.  Tera Opperman was the fourth â€Â˜Cat to hit fordouble-digits with her 10 points as she added four steals and three assists. As a team NMU had 21 steals on the night.

 

For the game the â€Â˜Cats were 32-84 from the floor (38.1percent), 6-23 in three-pointers (26.1 percent) and 15-22 from the charitystripe (68.2 percent).  NMU held the advantage on the boards with a 52-40slant.

 

NMU will play their second game of the season tomorrow,Saturday, Nov. 20, against Nebraska-Kearney at the Marzolf-Al Kaly ShrineClassic at CSU-Pueblo.
