MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Dean Ellis, the head menâ€Â™sbasketball coach at Northern Michigan University, has announced that DanWaterman has been named the assistant menâ€Â™s basketball coach for the Wildcats. 


Waterman has spent the past three seasons (2003-06) as theboyâ€Â™s basketball coach at Westwood High School where he was 41-24.  His teamduring the 2004-05 season was the Mid-Peninsula Conference Co-Champions andranked fourth in the final AP Class C Poll.  For that season, Waterman, wasnamed the AP Michigan Class C Coach of the Year and the Upper Peninsula ClassABC Coach of the Year.  The team was recognized as the Upper Peninsula Class CTeam of the Year.


Waterman was also the junior varsity (1999-03), freshman(1998-99) and assistant boyâ€Â™s varsity coach at Westwood (1997-03).  During the2002-03 season he served Ellis as a student-assistant coach at NMU.  Watermanhas served as a coach at basketball camps at Westwood, Alma College and at the B.U.C.S. Camp.


He graduated from Westwood in 1994 before moving on toMichigan Tech where he was a three-year letterwinner on the menâ€Â™s basketballteam.  Waterman was a two-year starter for the Huskies and was named to theGLIAC All-Defensive Team as a junior. Ã‚ Ã‚  He earned his bachelorâ€Â™s degree fromNMU in social studies-history in 2003.  Waterman is currently pursuing hismasterâ€Â™s degree.
