MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Sten Fjeldheim the NorthernMichigan University head womenâ€Â™s cross country running and the head menâ€Â™s andwomenâ€Â™s cross country skiing coach announces the following have signed aNational Letter of Intent to attend NMU and run and/or ski for the Wildcats. The women student-athletes will compete in both running and skiing while themen signees will ski.  NMU does not sponsor a varsity menâ€Â™s running squad.


Heather Bassett from Minocqua, Wis. was the 2006 Wisconsin State High School pursuit and freestyle champion.  She also captured the 2005freestyle championship at the state meet. 


Anna Karin from Sundsvall, Sweden competed at the elitelevel for her native country.


Ingrid Fjeldheim from Marquette, Mich. and Stenâ€Â™s daughter, placedthird at the 2006 Minnesota State High School Championships.  Fjeldheim was a three-timeAll-U.P. selection for track and cross country.


Christina Gillis from Fairbanks, Alaska was the Alaska State High School champion for the past school year.  She also had two top 10finished at the U.S. Junior Olympic Championships. 


Maria Grossi hails from Hayward, Wis.; she was the 2006state classic champion and runner-up in the pursuit.  She was a top 25 finisherat Junior Nationals in the 10K classic.


Martin Banerud from Oslo, Norway had two top 10 finishes atthe Norwegian National Junior Championships.
