NMU Football Awards


 

MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University football team announces its award winners for the 2005 season.  VincentMayfield and Rob Boss picked up two awards each at the teamâ€Â™s banquet on April23.

 

Mayfield was named the MVP of the team and was the recipientof the Outstanding Receiver Award.  This is the second year in a row Mayfieldpicked up the MVP award.  He was named to the Great Lakes IntercollegiateAthletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Conference Football Team First Team.  Mayfieldhad 69 receptions for 898 yards with six touchdowns.  He set a NMU careerrecord with 238 receptions.

 

Buddy Rivera received the Most Improved Player Award.  Hewas named to the GLIAC All-Conference Football Team Second Team.  Rivera had ateam-high 2,556 yards of total offense.  He threw for 2,151 and ran for 405yards.

 

The Outstanding Special Teams Award was given to KyleMarotz.  He led the Wildcats with 55 points as he was 14-16 in field goals anda perfect 13-13 in extra points.  Boss was the recipient of the Outstanding OffensiveLineman Award and also picked up the Inspirational Award.  He is currentlyplaying for the Green Bay Blizzard in the Arena Football League 2.

 

Brad Anderson led the â€Â˜Cats with 561 rushing yards.  Hepicked up the Outstanding Running Back Award.

 

Tyler Larson received the Outstanding Defensive LinemanAward. He ended the season with 55 total tackles and four sacks.  Jim Couretaswas the recipient of the Outstanding Linebacker Award. He led the â€Â˜Cats with110 total tackles. Ã‚  Matt Shem was selected to receive the OutstandingDefensive Back Award.  Shem had 72 total tackles and returned his onlyinterception for a touchdown.

 

Nathan Yelk was chosen to be the recipient of theOutstanding Freshman Award.  He played on special teams and on defense as hewas 4-8 in extra points and had 29 total tackles.

 

Justin Merckx was the recipient of the Outstanding OffensiveScout Team Award.  For the Outstanding Defensive Scout Team Award it went toDaniel Immel.
