Ripon, Wis. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s track and field team opened up the outdoor portion of the 2006schedule at the Ripon Invite yesterday at Ripon College.  In the team race theWildcats won the womenâ€Â™s event with 193 points.  The host, Ripon College, was second in the team race with 130 points.  NMU won five events on the day.


Danielle St. Onge and Kaylee Laakso had the â€Â˜Cats off andrunning as they finished second and third in the 100-meter dash with times of12.90 and 13.09 respectively.  The â€Â˜Cats had three runners in the top fivespots in the 200.  Stephanie Ostrenga was second (26.58) as she was followed byLaakso third (26.95) and Callie Boik fifth (27.25).  Stephanie Boyer in the 200led two scorers for NMU as she was second (59.49) and Ostrenga was fourth(60.62). 


Jackie Gross picked up one of the wins as she took the 800with a time of 2:22:99, teammate Stephanie Mishica was second in the event(2:23.41).  Brooke Rediger was fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:26.71. Mishica came back to take the 1,500 with a clocking of 4:52.33.  Rediger wassecond (4:58.01) and Jennifer Wiedmeyer seventh (5:14.76).


Danielle Stein and Megan Hoklas scored points for the â€Â˜Catsin the 5,000.  Stein was second (19:06.20) and Hoklas eighth (21:02.47).  JudyPumper was the lone â€Â˜Cat to score in the 10,000 as she was third (42:11.61). 


Natalie Bertucci placed second in the 100 hurdles (16.56)with teammate Amanda Holtz sixth (17.58).  Bertucci and Holtz competed in the400 hurdles as they were fourth (73.43) and eighth (1:23.54) respectively. Brittney Coehoorn picked up an individual title by winning the 3,000steeplechase (12:00.89). 


NMU won both relays on the schedule.  In the 4x100 relay theteam of Boik, Boyer, Laakso and St. Onge won the event with a time of 50.57just ahead of the Greater Milwaukee Track Club (50.79). The â€Â˜Cats had a littleeasier time in winning the 4x400 relay as Boyer, Gross, Laakso and Ostrenga rana 4:05.91 a little more than six seconds ahead of the Greater Milwaukee TrackClub relay (4:12.03). 


Kristin Carnel and Bertucci placed in the high jump.  Carnelwas fifth (5-00.25) and Bertucci seventh (5-00.25).  In the pole vault ParisMalin placed fifth (7-04.50) and Tasha Kettula was eighth (6-10.75).  St. Onge picked up eight points in the long jump with a second-place showing (16-08.00). She came back to also take second in the triple jump (34-01.50). Holtz wassixth in the triple jump (31-01.00).  NMU had two scorers in the javelin asBoik was fourth (95-04) and Malin fifth (93-07). 


The â€Â˜Cats will run, jump and throw next at the Ferris State University â€Â“ Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, April 8.
