DETROIT, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University hockey team closed out the 2005-06 season with a 3-2 loss to the University of Michigan in the consolation game at the Central Collegiate Hockey Association(CCHA) Championship at Joe Louis Arena.  NMU lost all three meetings with theWolverines this season.  The Wildcats finished the season with its fifthstraight 20-plus win season at 22-16-2.  UM is now 21-14-5 and will continueits season in the NCAA tournament.


Matt Ciancio playing in his final game as a Wildcat scoredthe opening goal of the game and his first of the season to give NMU the 1-0lead at 5:30 of the first period.  Bobby Selden assisted on the goal.  A littleover 10 minutes later (10:54), Matt Hunwick scored a power-play goal to tie thegame.  T.J. Hensick gave the Wolverines a 2-1 lead with his 17thgoal of the season at 16:01 of the second period.  NMU tied the game on DarinOlverâ€Â™s 15th goal of the season at 16:16.  Pat Bateman and MikeSantorelli assisted. 


The Wolverines scored the game-winner at 8:19 of the thirdperiod on Hunwickâ€Â™s second goal of the game.  With the loss the â€Â˜Cats are now1-2-0 in the past three CCHA consolation games.  â€ÂœI was very proud of ourteamâ€Â™s effort, we played hard and we battled right to the end,â€Â Walt Kylesaid. 


The Wolverines had 42 shots for the game while NMU had 31. Ã¢Ã‚€Ã‚œI had to give the team a chance to win, do everything I could do,â€Â BillZaniboni said.  â€ÂœOur guys played hard, our forwards came back, we cleared reboundsout, and we played hard against the wall and won some battles.â€Â  Ã‚ Zaniboniended the game with 39 saves.  Noah Ruden turned away 29 shots for UM.  NMU was0-3 on the power play while the Wolverines were 1-3. 


The â€Â˜Cats will open the 2006-07 season against the University of Wisconsin (Oct. 6-7) in Green Bay, Wis.
