NMU Announces Soccer Recruits

MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Matt Granstrand, the headwomenâ€Â™s soccer coach at Northern Michigan University, announces that thefollowing student-athletes have all committed to attend NMU and play soccer forthe Wildcats:  Dana Bush, Ashley Dekeyser, Megan Ford, Joana Kiilunen, EmilyLockery, Kara Music, Katie Pepin and Celia Sturos. Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ 

 

â€ÂœWe are very pleased with this incoming class of qualitystudent-athletes.  The level of play and overall athleticism will mesh wellwith our returning athletes and help us reach new heights,â€Â Granstrand said. Ã¢Ã‚€Ã‚œWe are looking forward to the preseason with high expectations for an excitingyear for the Wildcats.â€Â

 

Pepin, a forward from Iron Mountain, Mich., was the captainof her high school team. She played club soccer for the Northern Stars.  â€ÂœKatieis an outstanding student-athlete who excels both in the classroom as well ason the field,â€Â Granstrand said.  â€ÂœHer high level of athleticism will help hermake an immediate impact on this team.â€Â

 

Bush is a goalkeeper from Traverse City, Mich. and Gaylord High School.  She was a four-year varsity player and helped her team to theDivision League Championship and the state cup semifinals.  Bush is a member ofthe National Honor Society and is the Student Council President.  She playedclub soccer for the North Stars.  Her father played football on the NMU 1975National Championship team.

 

Dekeyser, an outside midfielder from New Franklin, Wis., wasthe conference Player of the Year. Ã‚  Dekeyser has scored 60 goals through threeyears of high school at Luxemburg-Casco.  She is a captain of her team as wellas a first-team all-area selection.  Dekeyser has been the team MVP all threeyears and a first-team all-conference selection. 

 

Ford was a midfielder from Gaylord, Mich. and the PetoskeyBreakers.  She was a first-team all-conference selection, all-region selectionand an all-state honorable mention pick.

 

Kiilunen is a defender from Brighton, Mich. and played clubsoccer for the Novi Jaguars.  Kiilunen was a second-team all-state selection,captain of her team, All-KVC, all-district and all-region. 

 

Lockery was a defender and 2005 MVP at Germantown, Wis. She was a member of the Olympic Development Program for three years (2003-05).  Hersoccer club, FC Milwaukee, was the club state champions in 1999, 2001, 2002,2004 and 2005. 

 

Music is a goalkeeper from Whitehouse, Ohio and the GreaterToledo Football Club.  She was a second-team all-conference selection for thepast season.  Music led her conference with 13 shutouts in 2005.  Her highschool team, Anthony Wayne, won the sectional championship twice during herhigh school career.

 

Sturos, a defender from South Lyon, Mich. played for Brighton High School, which was state finalist in 2005.  She was an honorable mentionselection for the KVC Conference all-soccer team.  She was also a member of theNovi Jaquars.
