HOUGHTON, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University menâ€Â™s cross country ski team competed at the CCSA Regional Championships which wereheld over the weekend at Michigan Tech.  Just like the women the NMU menfinished in second place behind the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks inboth races and in the combined team points.  UAF captured the classic race with73 team points while the Wildcats scored 68.  In the freestyle race the Nanookscollected 76 team points to 68 for the â€Â˜Cats.  UAF had 149 combined team pointsto 136 for NMU.


Saturday (Feb. 18) was the 10K classic technique race. Bryan Cook won the event with a time of 31:48.5.  Phil Violett was seventh forthe â€Â˜Cats (33:21.5).  The third â€Â˜Cats to cross the finish line and score pointsfor the â€Â˜Cats was Gus Kaeding in 10th (33:39.9).


Cook again on Sunday (Feb. 19) was the top finisher for theâ€Â˜Cats in the 15K freestyle technique race.  He was third overall with a time of41:53.7.  Also scoring points for NMU were Violett in 10th (32:13.2)and Adriaan Ostrander in 12th (43:42.1).


The â€Â˜Cats will ski next at the NCAA Skiing Championshipswhich are being held in Steamboat Springs, Colo. from March 8-11.
