HOUGHTON, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s cross country ski team competed at the CCSA Regional Championships at Michigan Tech University over the weekend.  The Wildcats finished in second place in boththe freestyle and classic events.  NMU scored 68 points in the classic resultwhich was five points behind the winning team the University of Alaska Fairbanks (73).  The â€Â˜Cats were second again on Sunday in the freestyle race as theNanooks took the team title with 73 points to 69 for NMU.  UAF took thecombined team title with 146 points, nine better than the â€Â˜Cats (137).


Saturday (Feb. 18) was the 5K classic technique race.  TamiKochen was the top placing â€Â˜Cat as she was third (18:41.3).  Laura DeWitt wasthe next to skate across the finish line with a time of 19:02.5 which placedher seventh.  The final â€Â˜Cat to score was Jennifer Wygant in ninth place(19:11.5).


Kochen was the top placing skier from NMU on Sunday (Feb.19) in the 10K freestyle technique race.  She covered the course in a time of30:21.5.  Wygant (32:33.5) and DeWitt (32:44.1) were seventh and 10threspectively.


The â€Â˜Cats will ski next at the NCAA Skiing Championshipswhich are being held in Steamboat Springs, Colo. from March 8-11.
