KRANJ, Slovenia â€Â“ Jenny Ryan the assistant crosscountry ski coach and head womenâ€Â™s track and field coach at Northern Michigan University is one of six coaches at the 2006 Under-23 Cross Country WorldChampionships and the Junior World Championships which are currently being heldin Slovenia. 


â€ÂœI am really excited to coach at an international event,â€ÂRyan said, just before leaving on the trip.  â€ÂœTo be with four athletes from NMUis a thrill.â€ÂÃƒ‚  Joining Ryan in Slovenia are Bryan Cook, Morgan Smyth, LindseyWeier and Lindsay Williams.  Weier, Williams and Cook are competing in theUnder-23 Championships while Smyth is competing at the Junior WorldChampionships.  Williams, Weier and Cook are using the event as a tune-up forthe Olympics. 


Ryan is looking forward to the competition for a number ofdifferent reasons.  â€ÂœI get to coach some of the top athletes from the U.S.,â€Â Ryan said.  â€ÂœI also get to watch some of the top athletes from around the world. HopefullyI can learn something.â€Â


On the first day of competition, Smyth was seventh in the 1Ksprint and Williams was 27th.  Smyth was the top American in theevent.
