
SAULT STE. Marie, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s track and field team competed at the 2006 Michiganâ€Â™s UpperPeninsula Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Lake Superior State University.ÂÂ
Brooke Rediger was second in the mile with a time of5:17.6. Teammates Jessica Kalafut (5:24.4) and Stephanie Riedel (5:30.0) werefifth and sixth respectively. Danielle St. Onge won the 55-meter dash with atime of 7.37. Other NMU runners in the race were Callie Boik (7.55), KayleeLaakso (7.59) and Chelsea Bootz (7.90).ÂÂ
Leslie Luehmann won the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.81 asteammate Natalie Bertucci was second in the event (9.15). The â€Â˜Cats had thetop two places in the 400 as Stephanie Boyer won the event (59.46) andStephanie Ostrenga was second (1:00.5). Melissa Schultz ran a 1:02.4 in the400 which was good for fourth place as Laakso was fifth (1:03.3).
NMU had another one-two finish as this time it was in the800. Jacalyn Gross won the event with a clocking of 2:21.7 about two secondsahead of teammate Stephanie Mishica (2:23.0). Boyer then picked up her secondwin of the day by running a 26.75 in the 200. St. Onge was second in the event(27.21). Brittney Coehoorn was third in the 3000 with a time of 10:43.0.ÂÂ
The tandem of Boyer, Schultz, Laakso and Ostrenga won the4x400 relay with a time of 4:17.9. Bertucci was second in the high jump with aleap of 4-10.00. Amanda Holtz was third in the event (4-08.00) and LauraRueden was fourth (4-06.00)
The â€Â˜Cats are at the NCAA II Challenge next weekend (Feb.3-4) at Saginaw Valley State University.ÂÂ
