KALAMAZOO, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University hockey team has not played at Lawson Ice Arena since February of 2002.  Thelast trip the Wildcats made to Western Michigan they were swept.  Well theirlatest trip did not start off well as the Broncos took care of the â€Â˜Cats onFriday night by a 4-2 count.  Both of the â€Â˜Cats goals on the night wereunassisted.  With the loss the â€Â˜Cats are now 14-12-1 overall and 10-10-1 in theCentral Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).  The Broncos improve to 6-16-3and 6-11-2 respectively.


The Broncos struck first with a goal by Brian Bicek at 3:18of the first period.  Darin Olver answered for the â€Â˜Cats with his 12thgoal of the season at 4:32 of the second period.  His goal was a short-handed marker. Also in the period, Brent Walton gave the home team the lead for good with his19th of the season at 8:54.


WMU made the score 3-2 on a power-play goal by Nathan Ansellat 7:58 of the third period.  Zach Tarkir gave the â€Â˜Cats new life with histhird goal of the season at 14:48 to cut the Broncos lead to 3-2.  WMU put thegame away with an empty-net goal by Jeff Lovecchio at 18:52.


Bill Zaniboni had 26 saves on the night.  His counterpartfrom WMU, Daniel Bellissimo, had 22 saves in the win.  NMU had seven power-playopportunities on the night.  The Broncos tallied one power-play goal also onseven chances.  WMU had 30 shots on the night as the â€Â˜Cats had 24. 


The two cluster partners will square off again tomorrowafternoon (Jan. 28) at Lawson Ice Arena.  Remember the puck will drop at 4:35p.m. as the game will be on Fox Sports Net as part of Hockey Day In Michigan.
