MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University menâ€Â™s basketball team must like it in Marquette as they won their fourthgame in a row on Thursday night.  All of the wins have come at the Berry Events Center.  The â€Â˜Cats never trailed in the game and it was tied once in the73-54 win over the Northwood University Timberwolves.  NMU is now 11-8 overallon the season and 7-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference(GLIAC).  NU falls to 6-13 and 1-9 respectively.


NMU jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead on three-pointers fromRicky Volcy and David Noel.  The Timberwolves tied the game at eight-all at16:44 of the first half. Ã‚ Ã‚  After the tie, NMU went on a 15-0 run to take the23-8 lead at 10:51.  During the run the â€Â˜Cats made three three-pointers.  Forthe remainder of the half, NMU kept the lead above 10 points.


NU made the first basket of the second half to cut the leadto 39-31.  NMU answered with a three-pointer from Will Washington.  The â€Â˜Catscruised for the rest of the half as they kept the lead from 12 to 19 points. NMU shot 53.6 percent from the floor in the second half (15-28). 


R. Volcy led all scorers with 20 points.  He also added ninerebounds and six assists.  Washington was the only other â€Â˜Cat in double-digitsas he had 13 points.  Aaron Simpson led the Timberwolves with 14 points.


For the game the â€Â˜Cats shot over 50 percent from the flooras they team was 30-54 for 55.6 percent.  NMU made nine of its 23 three-pointattempts (39.1 percent).  The â€Â˜Cats went to the free throw line only seventimes for the game and made four throws (57.1 percent).  NMU controlled allaspects of the glass.  The â€Â˜Cats had 37 total rebounds as 12 came off theoffensive glass.  NU had a total of 18 rebounds for the game.


The â€Â˜Cats will finish up the homestand with a game against Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday (Jan. 28).  Saturdayâ€Â™s game is â€ÂœPack the Placeâ€Âas free tickets are available at Holiday Station Stores in Marquette, Harvey,Negaunee and Ishpeming.
